About Tom Yawkey

Tom Yawkey had a deep appreciation for, and desire to protect and conserve, natural resources. This commitment dates back to Tom’s childhood visits to Georgetown, South Carolina, where his uncle, William Yawkey, purchased a small amount of land along the Georgetown shoreline in 1914.

Research

We are proud of our dedication to scientific research. Collaborating with universities, environmental organizations, and governmental agencies, the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center contributes valuable insights into wildlife behavior, habitat restoration, and ecosystem management. These studies not only enhance our understanding of local biodiversity but also inform conservation strategies on a broader scale.

Moreover, we are committed to environmental education. The center offers various programs for students, researchers, and the public, ranging from guided tours and workshops to field research opportunities. Through these initiatives, we foster a sense of ecological awareness and a deep connection to the natural world, inspiring future generations to champion conservation efforts.
