DESCRIPTION:During this tour\, we invite artists to paint en plein air the history and beauty of the Yawkey Wildlife Center. Visit the exact location where legendary American artist Andrew Wyeth painted on Cat Island in the 1930s. Artists need to provide their own supplies and equipment and be able to navigate 2 floating docks and a pontoon boat to cross the Intracoastal Waterway\, as well as a few steps onto the tour bus. SUMMARY:Stories of the Fort
DESCRIPTION:Go back in time to the days of late 1861 when 2 nd Lt. John R. Beaty and Company B of the 10th South Carolina Infantry were stationed on Cat Island. Bring your chair and be transported by bus to the fort\, where you will hear stories from Lt. Beaty’s journal\, as well as stories uncovered by our SCNDR archaeology team. View artifacts\, explore the fort\, and learn of its uncertain future due to shoreline erosion from our archaeologists. This trip requires little walking\, but participants will need to navigate 2 floating docks and a pontoon boat to cross the Intracoastal Waterway\, as well as a few steps onto the tour bus. Please remember these space restrictions and bring an easily portable chair\, plus your bag lunch and drink. Trips start at 10:00 and run until approximately 2:00.
