Public access to the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center is restricted to ensure ecological conservation and protection of the wildlife sanctuary. Special tours are offered on a regular basis by appointment only.

To check the availability of the tours listed below and make a reservation, please contact the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center office by email at WhamP@DNR.SC.GOV, by phone at 843-546-6814 between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm or leave a message on the answering machine. Reservations are required for all tours and there is no charge involved. Weekly Educational Field Trips typically run in most weather conditions but other events may be weather dependent.

Birding and Wildlife Photography

The Yawkey Wildlife Center is an important habitat for many species of birds and waterfowl, as well as other wildlife! This trip will visit various habitats for wildlife, including brackish marshes, managed wetlands, and longleaf pine forests. Locations will vary due to the time of year and which birds are in residence. Make sure to bring your camera and binoculars! Participants should be prepared to cross the Intracoastal Waterway via pontoon boat, as well as a significant amount of walking on relatively even ground. Bring a bag lunch and drink. Trips start at 10:00 and run until approximately 2:00.
