Public access to the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center is restricted to ensure ecological conservation and protection of the wildlife sanctuary. Special tours are offered on a regular basis by appointment only.

To check the availability of the tours listed below and make a reservation, please contact the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center office by email at WhamP@DNR.SC.GOV, by phone at 843-546-6814 between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm or leave a message on the answering machine. Reservations are required for all tours and there is no charge involved. Weekly Educational Field Trips typically run in most weather conditions but other events may be weather dependent.

From Forest to Marsh Walk

Explore portions of Cat Island’s forest and brackish marshes on this walking tour. In addition to beautiful scenery, you will learn about the management of these ecosystems and the plants and animals that thrive in these two very different environments. Program will include a leisurely hike through the forest and along the dikes of Cat Island. Participants should be prepared to cross the Intracoastal Waterway via pontoon boat, as well as around 3 miles of walking on relatively even ground. Bring a bag lunch and drink. Trips start at 10:00 and run until approximately 2:00.
