Stories of the Fort

February 25 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Go back in time to the days of late 1861 when 2 nd Lt. John R. Beaty and Company B of the 10th South Carolina Infantry were stationed on Cat Island. Bring your chair and be transported by bus to the fort, where you will hear stories from Lt. Beaty’s journal, as well as stories uncovered by our SCNDR archaeology team. View artifacts, explore the fort, and learn of its uncertain future due to shoreline erosion from our archaeologists. This trip requires little walking, but participants will need to navigate 2 floating docks and a pontoon boat to cross the Intracoastal Waterway, as well as a few steps onto the tour bus. Please remember these space restrictions and bring an easily portable chair, plus your bag lunch and drink. Trips start at 10:00 and run until approximately 2:00.
